Eat. Learn. Play. recently launched a series of high-dosage tutoring pilots to help the OUSD school system tackle its growing literacy crisis. With no guarantee of success, they sought to document the program’s challenges and breakthroughs—capturing both the obstacles faced and the impact achieved. To bring this story to life in a compelling and authentic way, they needed a creative approach that would immerse viewers in the experience and highlight the power of literacy intervention.
Creative Solution
For this 20-minute mini-documentary, we crafted an immersive, emotionally driven narrative that highlights the literacy challenges students in Oakland face and the transformative impact of Eat. Learn. Play.’s tutoring programs. Through a blend of observational classroom footage, personal student stories, and expert insights, we bring viewers into the heart of the issue—showcasing the struggles, the solutions, and the real progress being made. By following three students’ journeys, we personalize the impact of E.L.P’s initiatives, illustrating how targeted support fosters confidence and growth. The film concludes with a hopeful look at the future, leaving audiences inspired by the power of literacy and the lasting change it creates.
