When Sport Court came to us, the goal was to create a short brand film that shows how their work impacts communities nationwide, while also shining a light on their partnership with Eat. Learn. Play.. One of our oldest clients is Eat. Learn. Play and thus we already had a lot of knowledge that we could work with to create a compelling brand video.
Something we knew we had to do was ground the story in a single place. A national message only works if it’s rooted in something specific and lived-in—somewhere you can actually see and feel the outcomes of the work. Emerson Elementary offered something we couldn’t manufacture: a strong sense of identity and community. With a deep history as a predominantly Black school, it has long been rooted in connection, pride, and mutual support. Today, that foundation continues to evolve—especially around inclusion and accessibility for all students.
The playground and basketball court aren’t just facilities. They’re part of a larger system designed to help students connect, grow, and take ownership of their environment. That made it the right place to tell a much bigger story. A social skills group of fifth grade boys uses their program called “Crew” to build communication, sportsmanship, and leadership—with opportunities to become Junior Coaches and help lead younger students.
Emerson is the setting, but the takeaway is broader: when thoughtful design meets intentional programming, spaces like this can shape how communities grow.
